2/6/21 w07 Cross-Cultural Students in the Classroom

Having Cross-Cultural Students in the Classroom is a challenge for the future TESOL teacher because he must develop a work plan to achieve a good student environment.

He will have to consider Asian students with their high respect for teachers, their low expressiveness, and their little participation due to their cultural paradigms.
African American students with their active participation and high expressiveness, American whites tend to be less expressive, Hispanics with their high tolerance for expressiveness.
Don't let the teacher be surprised if an American student enters the classroom late without apologizing or if African Americans talk too much or if Asians just want to participate all of this is part of cultural behaviors.
Professor Ivers said: We live in an egalitarian society, supposedly. Now, is it really egalitarian?
Before God we are all equal, we all have the same opportunities and rights, we are all subject to the law. With these precepts we must act before the cross-cultural students we will be their guides in this process of learning a new language.

Applying this knowledge especially about behavior, I have seen these differences in a classroom of students from the same culture, extremely expressive children to others who are quiet and not very participative. Each home is like a subculture where each one has its customs and behaviors that are also reflected. out of the home. with all this, having a good specific list of rules for coexistence in a cross-cultural classroom will maintain a comfortable environment for students.

  1. I think multicultural participants in a class can be a challenge but can give us a chance to teach and learn beyond the lesson; in some cases, all the cultural manifestations can be the context for the apprenticeship.
